Subject: New CG mil-rec station (actually renewed station)

Gents,

I wanted to pass along some news and pictures.  Please feel free to distribute as you see fit.  We broke ground on Saturday here on CG Island for W2AIR, W6NMC, & KF6FVK.  You older Coasties might recognize W2AIR.  It was at Governor's Island for years until 1991.  It was transferred to TRACEN Petaluma after the old ham call of W6ZZM expired and was not renewed.  Read more at: http://www.qrz.com/db/w2air.

Attached are photos of the groundbreaking team (CDR Brenden Kettner/KC8JCH, Dave Rice/KB1NDE, Demetrius Wren/Ham in training, and Eric Simmons/KB6YNO), comms hut (pre-rehab), and tower.  We're hoping for CG Day (Aug 4th) for the official opening.  If not, then it'll be dedicated on Oct 17th for the CG Aux's Birthday.

The comms hut will be moved from the north end of building 51 (old recruit barracks) to east side (behind/water side) of building 54.  A weed matt will be laid today.  Gravel to follow after that.  Then, we'll move the hut.  We'll give it a good pressure washing and paint job.  The interior needs work, especially the floor.  Electrical and coax will follow after that.  Finally, we'll have to shanghai some office furniture and hand some shelves.  There's too much to list here.

At any rate, we'll keep you posted as events occur.  You can also read about it at http://www.w6nmc.org

Enjoy!
