Here's an e-mail that I sent to various interested parties: 73 de Eric, KB6YNO -----Original Message----- Sent: Tuesday, June 23, 2009 8:28 AM
Subject: New CG mil-rec station (actually renewed station)
Gents,
I wanted to pass along some news and pictures. Please feel free to distribute as you see fit. We broke ground on Saturday here on CG Island for W2AIR, W6NMC, & KF6FVK. You older Coasties might recognize W2AIR. It was at Governor's Island for years until 1991. It was transferred to TRACEN Petaluma after the old ham call of W6ZZM expired and was not renewed. Read more at: http://www.qrz.com/db/w2air.
Attached are photos of the groundbreaking team (CDR Brenden Kettner/KC8JCH, Dave Rice/KB1NDE, Demetrius Wren/Ham in training, and Eric Simmons/KB6YNO), comms hut (pre-rehab), and tower. We're hoping for CG Day (Aug 4th) for the official opening. If not, then it'll be dedicated on Oct 17th for the CG Aux's Birthday.
The comms hut will be moved from the north end of building 51 (old recruit barracks) to east side (behind/water side) of building 54. A weed matt will be laid today. Gravel to follow after that. Then, we'll move the hut. We'll give it a good pressure washing and paint job. The interior needs work, especially the floor. Electrical and coax will follow after that. Finally, we'll have to shanghai some office furniture and hand some shelves. There's too much to list here.
At any rate, we'll keep you posted as events occur. You can also read about it at http://www.w6nmc.org
Enjoy!
73 de Eric, KB6YNO

Well, Almost! We have received approval to begin ground prep to move the "Shack" to it's new location by the tower. We will begin digging out the top soil, putting in the gravel and sorting out antenna cables on June 20th. We will start around 1000 and we need as much help as possible to get this ready to recieve the shack the following week. Send me a quick e-mail to let me know if you'll be there. If you can't make it, there is still much work to be done. We need to replace the floor in the shack, give it a very good cleaning, paint the outside and fix the door handle just to name a few things. Almost there, thanks to everyone for keeping up the momentum. Brenden KD8JCH
